Garrett was born and raised in New York State. Since his teenage years, he has had a passion for learning languages. He first left his home country in 2018 to participate in the Internationales Preisträgerprogramm, an international youth exchange and German-language immersion program supported by Germany's Foreign Office. 

In 2021, he graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Garrett completed his CELTA in 2024. 

Outside of language learning, Garrett's hobbies include photography and the outdoors.
